What it Looks Like Today:Dulverton Station
Gallery of old pictures
We then walked along the road until we came to what is now the entrance to,"The Station Master's House",although I believe that this was actually the entrance to the sidings and where freight would be loaded and unloaded. All along the roadside, you can still see the original railings,as well as getting a good frontal view of the Station Master's House and the Goods Shed.Care must be taken when walking along the road here,as the cars don't always seem to obey the speed limit.
Just inside the entrance, there is what I believe to be an old signal box, that was maybe specifically to control the sidings, but I don't know that for sure.It looks like it has been well preserved and looked after and on our visit seems to be used as a sort of tool shed.
We would really have liked to have explored in to the grounds, but being a private residence,we decided to walk back to where we had parked in Brushford.Along our walk back we noticed a man and a lady gardening within the grounds of the Station Master's House and ended up having a chat with them.We soon learnt that they were the current owners Tony and Christine(another one) and that they had lived there for several years.
They have spent many years doing up the house and have brought in many tons of soil to landscape the garden, but it looked to me that there was still a lot more to be done.
It turned out that the part of platform that we had seen in the garden was not original as we had at first thought, but had been built there long after the real platform had been removed. The lamp post on this "platform",although old was nothing to do with the station, but had been bought and added from an outside source.
Before we left them,Tony told us that he would be happy for us to come and take a closer look at the house and take some closer pictures. If he does contact me to arrange a time for this visit,we will do a follow up article,so please do contact me Tony :)
